Why this show exists
Australia has no shortage of debate about the next policy, the next poll or the next election. What it often lacks is a shared picture of where we are trying to get to.
Alice: “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
Cheshire Cat: “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in WonderlandIf we do not know where we are going, it is hard to choose a direction. Vision 4 Australia asks leaders from business, community, the arts, science, media and public life to describe the destination first: what Australia could look like, what should stay the same, and what it would take to get there.
It is not a political podcast. There is no point-scoring, and no gotcha questions. It is about outcomes and options for a country with extraordinary opportunities.
How a conversation works
- The personWhere you come from and what shaped how you see Australia.
- The visionAustralia in 2050: what it looks like, what stays, what changes.
- The specificsWhat it takes: who does what, what it costs, and what you would do first.
The questions every guest is asked
- It is 2050. What does Australia look like, and what has changed from today?
- Picture an ordinary family in a suburb or country town in 2050. What does a normal Saturday look like, and what do they worry about less than families do today?
- What must stay the same about Australia, whatever else changes?
- If you wrote the front page of the paper for New Year's Day 2050, what would the headline be?
After that, we go deeper on the topics that matter most to each guest, from cost of living and safety to jobs, health, education and our place in the region.
